Configuration

The SMA Data Manager M only follows the power limits of the EMS when two things are set up on it: the Modbus server, and active power control by Modbus in the grid management services. With only the Modbus server active, the EMS can read the data but the Data Manager ignores its limits.

1. Connect with your computer on the same LAN network as the SMA Data Manager M.
2. In your web browser, surf to the IP address of the Data Manager and log in as "Installer."
3. Check that the correct country standard was selected during commissioning.
4. Activate the Modbus server on the Data Manager. Only Modbus TCP works (not UDP).
5. In the "Configuration" menu, open "Grid management services."
6. Click "Configuration and activation" in the "Active power method" row.
7. Select the operating mode "Closed loop" or "Open loop."
8. Select "Modbus" as the signal source.
9. Make the remaining settings as the grid operator specifies, and confirm each step with "Continue."
10. Click "Save."

If active power control by Modbus is not enabled, the "Control" column of the Data Manager on the devices page of the EMS turns red with the message "Grid management services are not enabled in the SMA Data Manager, so it ignores our setpoints."
